Fishing Trip Advice
Fishing can be a fun and exciting time for your family as long as nothing goes wrong. Danger lurks out there for the unsuspecting and unprepared.
By taking the iniative of careful planning and preparing you can be ready for almost anything including bad weather, broken fishing reel, or a snagged line.
When you’ve snagged your hook in the underbrush or your lines are all tangled go ahead and take immediate action to get it loose before you have a bigger mess on your hands. Sometimes it’s easier just to break off the snag or the twig than to try to untangle it. Tangled lines can sure be frustrating.
You may be forced to cut your line if the snagged line is out of reach or caught on a limb or log too big to break. Snagged and twisted lines can be frustrating if you are not careful where you flip your line as you are casting. A floating lure on a broken line can be a death trap for a hungry unsuspecting fish.
Cuts and abrasions can occur when working with fishing equipment, because a lot of the instruments that you’re using are sharp. Always include in your fishing equipment a first aid kit with some peroxide, medicated spray or medicated lotion, Band-Aids, and other bandages, cotton, or paper towel. This should be a regular part of your first-aid kit.
Keep track of your bait supply. If you think you are going to run short start dividing your bait into halves, or quarters to make it go further. Those smaller pieces won’t deter a hungry fish.
Prepare for the weather you will be experiencing during your fishing trip. Check the weather report and keep track of it daily. You will have a better idea of what clothes and fishing equipment to bring with you. This will ensure a better chance of having a nice comfortable trip.
When you are out on a lake or river watch the sky, tracking the weather is a great safety precaution to keep you out of trouble. If a storm should pop up suddenly head for shore. Be aware of weather conditions even on land so as not to get caught in a flash flood or lightning strikes.
Being prepared for most challenges and keeping safety foremost in your mind will help you to have a great fishing trip.
